This is a very good site to review whenever you want to start some major outdoor project like building a shed for your garden or even a holiday cabin. We know a little about building cabins because that is what we, the explorers of Andinia do from time to time in rather isolated and remote areas; the idea is to provide ourselves with 'hard surface' shelters instead of tents in places that we can replenish by organising caravans or by bush plane.
These cabins give explorers or anyone in need of using them better sheltering than a simple tent; you get more room and some degree of primitive comfort, and even if it is snowing for weeks outside, you will still be able to move around; you simply cannot do that in a tent.
We always use locally-available resources in these constructions, mainly stone and wood, and it usually takes a month of work to get one of these cabins done. But once they are finished, they can stand for decades with no trouble and provide a useful service
Unfortunately, in some cases people who passed by and used them as shelters did not care about them; in one case, such a shelter was completely and utterly destroyed by local peasants keen on grabbing land, but for the most part, intelligent and civilised folks understand that keeping these cabins intact is also in their best interest.
