The use of stickers has been growing in recent years, both in the number of those produced as well as in the kind and varieties available. Today it is perfectly possible to cover a vehicle completely with adhesive plastic coats coloured or decorated in fairly complex ways.
This is used mainly in the case of high value vehicles such as boats and small aircraft; in these cases, a complete paint job is generally very expensive. Painting a small aircraft could put the owner back in about six thousand euros, while a sticker meant to cover its whole surface might cost about one fourth that amount, plus the fact that putting it does not entail any poisonous fumes, paint vapours or complex processes.
Stickers should, however, be applied by someone skilled in the task. Power boats and aircraft are subjected to climate aggression, and stickers which have not been well placed and adhered to the surface in question will soon tend to peel off, giving the whole thing a rather bad aspect.
But what is especially good in this case is that stickers lend themselves to more creativity: the owner of the vehicle can easily begin to advertise, adapt the car, yatch, etc. to his or her personal tastes, or even express artistic ideas; you just give your vehicle the finishing you think it deserves.
Armed, police and security forces may also be interested in suing this technique, since preparing a vehicle for operational use under ever changing conditions (i.e. camouflaging it) may be accomplished in less time and at a fraction of the original cost; plus, suing stickers is a reversible process.
And in the case of all terrain and adventure vehicles, suing a layer of plastic material over exterior surfaces also adds additional protection.
