The world of commercial transport aviation is in a constant state of change that began to accelerate since the tragic events of September 11, 2001; the complex and massive terrorist plot that took place then, marked the beginning of a decline process of major and traditional airlines, which has not stopped yet and has forced the surviving ones to adapt by significantly restructuring their operations and services.

This, and the inroads that discount and low-cost airlines have been making, particularly in Europe, are turning air travel into something which is less than a luxury and more of a mass transportation system in the truest possible sense.
