 | Everything you ever wanted to know aout motor oil but didn't know to ask. Car and land vehicle drivers know relatively little about their engines, and considering that a motor usually represents about 30% of the price of a vehicle, the importance of keeping it working rightly cannot be overemphasised. Most people are accustomed to just putting the key in the right place, turning it and nothing else, but in order to care for an engine you have to understand how it works and what kind of things do nothing good to it. Modern engine designs, like those found on many all-terrain vehicles are highly efficient considering things such as their weight-power ratio, but in some cases, their consumption is not, and if you do not make proper use of these machines, you gasoline bill will start to soar. There are also many smallish things that mechanics may do to engines on purpose or just by ignorance that could potentially cause a lot of harm, so, by getting to know these little dirty tricks, you will avoid them. And then you have your vehicle's average reliability: good engines tend to cause less trouble, indeed, but consider what would happen to you if you are travelling around with your pick-up truck. If the engine stalls while you are in a highway, then you have a problem, but if it does while you are in the middle of a dirty road where the last car you so passed yesterday, then the problem may be serious. There have been a number of mechanical problems that got transformed into actual survival situations under such scenarios, and the outcome sometimes may be fatal. So, if you have a vehicle for your adventures, it is time to learn more about its engine and its mechanics, or risk you life unnecessarily, plain and simple. |
