The key to success in betting is the ability to identify value bet situations where the odds available are greater than the true chance of winning and then to have the discipline to methodically bet only when these situations arise. But horse racing is much more than just winning or losing money by wagering and betting, and has a lot to do with ancient habits and cultural values: since the Accadians invented the two-wheel light chariot, the 'nerkabtu', around the year 2.500 B.C. which was invariably pulled by horses in opposition to other vehicles that relied in oxen, donkeys and so on, the horse has become iconic for many different cultures and civilisations.
Despite the fact that the horse as ma biological machine has been replaced now with mechanical machines that are more efficient, equines still draw a lot of attention from a lot of people. But curiously enough, during the first centuries in which horses began to be tamed and domesticated in the mesopotamic region to be used as living machinery for a variety of different tasks, they were not appreciated as greatly individually as they were as part of the whole mechanism of a chariot. In fact, 'chariotry' preceded 'cavalry' by far as an institution of prestige, and it wasn't until around the year 1.500 B.C. that horses became prestigious as amount for individuals; kings, noblemen and the rich could afford to buy horses and mount them.
Indeed, it was only a matter of time until horses became commonplace within armies because of their tactical value, speed and other qualities, and it is perhaps fair to say that the horse was the first fulfiller of man's dream for speed.
