Maybe, it is time to renew our trust a little in folklore, traditions and customs instead of listening to everything that pharmaceuticals corporations have to say.
Traditional medicine and conventional medical products are less effective now that they have been in the past. It is not only that microorganisms are adapting to our existing drugs; medicine is losing part of its altruistic spirit and becoming more of a business than anything else.
It is of course not bad to earn some money from honest work, but as medical science continues to fall into the hands of multinational corporations that only act in terms of the quest for profits instead of curing, for them it becomes more convenient to develop treatments, but no final cures. Thus, whether existing drugs have become less effective or not against microorganisms is secondary: the issue is that there are no commercial reasons to make drugs that should replace the old ones even as effective as those were in the past.
This is no part of a conspiracy theory, but an interpretation of reality based on plain old common sense. We always had a mixture of business and medicine in these matters; but today, economic forces turn laboratories into impersonal companies with no clue of right and wrong.
Pharmacy is an industry and as such, it is interested in selling things, but you don't sell where there is no demand, and you don't have a demand if there are no problems to solve. And the only way to bring some balance into this situation is to turn away from the ineffective, expensive and sometimes deluding pharmaceutical products and pay more attention to natural and homemade medicines which are cheaper and still work.
It is indeed unavoidable that business mixes with medicine, but since pharmaceutical companies would never be interested in creating solutions that eventually would lead to the disappearance of the needs that make them grow, medicine should not be based essentially in such a model because it will cease to be medicine. Labs may be interested in impressing their shareholders; people are interested in curing themselves. The gap couldn't be greater.
