In a time when we undoubtely have to begin considering the effects of climate change, websites dedicated to climatology and meteorology, like in this case, become more important than ever, both for informative as well as preventive reasons. Not only the information provided by these sites is valuable and useful to understand our climate and meteorological phenomena, because these products and services may literally help us to survive one day. It is a scientifically established and confirmed fact that the Earth is warming-up, and despite what some governments around the world do, this will not change so easily: to pretend that there is no global warming, not to mention or consider the fact and continue unabated with reckless industrial activities will not work, and to refuse to sign treatises - the Kyoto Protocol comes into our minds again -, the only thing that they will achieve is to suffer further disasters. The fact that the Earth's temperature has risen just above one degree Celsius may look insignificant; however, this apparently small change is more than enough to trigger a sequence of concatenated eefect that end, eventually, in hurricanes like those we see now more frequently plundering the coasts of the United States. Millions of people, their pets and their properties are suffering and in danger of destruction - more than in the case of any weapon of mass destruction ever conceived -, and we not only must start looking with suspicion at those that still insist that there is no global climate change; we must also prepare for survival under such circumstances. And this process must begin by gathering the necessary equipment and knowledge to handle such situations. But we would like to stress the fact that knowledge must come before gear, for all the money in the world, all the resources of the most economically powerful nation and the most-advanced technology proved not to be enough to save a city. Will they be enough the next time? |
