Is it possible to travel without spending a lot of money? The answer is a resounding, emphatic and absolute YES.

We, the people of Andinia, are explorers; as you may have already noticed thorough our website (if not, we invite you to take a look), albeit we are a search engine and portal, we have one thing that makes us different: we don't just list links to other sites, but we write comments as lengthy as articles or reports about each site, our views, tips for travellers and more.

This means that we have to travel, study and learn a lot about what we do; otherwise, we would not be able to produce tens of thousands of pages of unique content.Travelling is costly, and perhaps you may think that our explorers go on first class, to luxurious hotels, have expensive equipment, and wireless internet connections from anywhere, including low-Earth orbit to a gleaming building called headquarters. That is not the case indeed; but we are perfectly capable of organising trips that, on average, cost about 50 euros per week, per each person.

We are not talking about fifty euros per a hotel room, or restaurant meals, or Disneyland weekly passes; we say fifty euros per week, full cost, including hotels, meals, transportation and entertainment. You may have seen that flying on a low-cost airline, you may also save a bundle, but what about executive aircraft? You can - and we do that all the time - travel in private airplanes for about the same sum, for eight hours, or a week or so, whatever you prefer.

There are no obtuse and paranoic security checks at airports, no crammed terminals, lengthy stop-overs and so; we just reach the airport, climb inside and fly when we want, as we want, and if something nice appears during the flight, we just turn in circles to take pictures. Now, try to do that in your next commercial flight! We know how to do this too; information is power, but also means savings. Many times people spend too much because they just don't know about the options they have, or believe that such options, being cheaper, should be not as good as what they pay for with premium prices.

In fact, you may have experienced in your life that sometimes, what costs less is actually better! The same thing happens in the travel industry; and please note that we are not exaggerating a bit in this article.

For example, if you cross from San Diego to Tijuana, you should not go where the rest of tourists go. Everything is made up to lure you into certain places that cost actually four times more than the real Mexico. If you like the sea shore at Baja California, instead of remaining in the city of Tijuana, just travel a couple of kilometres down south, and you will get the same for much less.

And something similar happens in every city in every country regarding tourists; merchants and even authorities count on the fact that you as a visitor do not know some things, and thus they charge you for your well-intended ignorance. But if you get to understand the patterns behind this, you will be able to move better and find the really good offers and opportunities.

Considering the amounts of money that you will be able to save on your future trips, investing in this kind of information makes perfect sense.

By the way, a couple of weeks ago one of our staff went to Mexico City; he wanted to buy a mask of 'El Santo,' a wrestler who became a B-movie star there and a living hero. He always appeared wearing a silver mask. So, our colleague started his quest, and he soon realised that merchants were asking for forty dollars for the mask.

He paid in the end, five.
