Our experience travelling has shown us that many times tourist are charged fees much higher than needed, and this does not happen only at the customs desk or taxi stop of a third world airport with lights filled with dead insects.
To our amazement, it happens frequently within the European Union, where you get charged a lot for services that elsewhere cost singificantly less, and bear in mind that we have compared countries with standards similar to those of the U.E.
For example, if you try to rent a small aircraft in Europe, you will be charged no less than 100 euros per hour while in many parts of the world the cost for the same services rarely tops half of that, suing the same planes and with similar fuel costs.
The same can be found regarding other areas and services, so this suggest that for certain cases, it may be worth travelling abroad in order to experience certain things, study some courses, etc.
For example, a PPL-A (Private Pliot's License-Aeroplane) in Europe would cost you at least 4.500 euros, consdiering that you will need at leas 45 hours of flying lessons; in the United States or Argentina, you will be able to get the same for about half that amount plus the fact that in these both countries you can finish the course while on an extended holiday of about three months, instead of waiting the three years that you would need in the U.E.
Now, with 4.500 you will pay yourself the course, plus air tickets to any of these countries and your stay there, and if you have more aeronautical ambitions there is no way in which European schools could compete.
Don't want to fly? Wnat to become a ship's skipper? The same applies. And so is in the case of all-terrain driving, parachuting or almost any extreme sport that you may imagine.
