Affordable Automobiles

This is one of those opportunities that you just have to take into account, for you might become able to save a good bit of money the next time you want to buy a car or vehicle.

This includes exotic vehicles, and speaking about these, some of the most exotic vehicles ever made on Earth come from the immediate post-war after the 1936 - 1945 conflict (the Spanish civil war and the war between China and Japan should be considered as part of WWII,) and originated indeed in the wartime needs and requirements of the belligerent countries.

Some of these vehicles became operational and saw actual use in practical terms, and one that always called our attention was the 'Kubel wagen' or 'Cube car,' which was nothing less than a Volkswagen beetle converted into a military-grade, all terrain amphibian car which saw extensive use in all battlefields of the conflict in which German troops participated. Its main virtues as a military vehicle were its simplicity, low cost and of course, its amphibian capabilities.

Of course, this was no motorboat, but it could actually navigate well; sadly, very few Kubel wagens were left after the war, for it was as remarkable as versatile a vehicle.

And another, even more curious development is the hovercraft, which comes from some of the oddest German research and development efforts: during the war, they were looking to develop a Coanda effect aircraft, which is a convoluted way to describe a flying saucer. The idea of the Germans was to construct a combat aircraft capable of operating from everywhere, very fast and superior in all aspects to whatever the allies may put on the skies: it was going to be a true VTOL aircraft.

Apparently they did build a couple of prototypes, and tested them; witnesses say that those things surpassed the sound barrier. However, there is on tangible proof of that and Chuck Yeager remains officially as the first human to surpass the sound barrier in the Bell X1, a few years later.

But soon after the war, intelligence officers from both the U.S.A. and the Soviet Union realised that the Germans did in fact worked on such fearsome weapons and mutually believed that each other had attracted or captured the scientists that worked in the Coanda ships, and began researching on flying saucers on their own.

The German technology was so frightening and the former allies understood that was so far ahead of their own technology, that if they had finished their prototypes a few years earlier, they could have easily won the war, so there was no moment to waste and with a healthy financing they went on flying their saucers.

They began testing experimental vehicles which probably caused many a UFO sighting, and this eventually led, a few years later, to the appearance of the first practical hovercraft in the United States.
