Magazine for dog and cat lovers: we sell advertise for breeders, pet artists, pet supplies, pet food, pet care products.
The truth is that only very few people dislike both cats and dogs. But the curious thing is that - in a somewhat distant past - these were the animals that became domesticated, and not others.
This probably happened as a consequence of mutual benefits and self-interest: it was simply convenient for humans, cats and dogs to live together because they could get in this way mutual protection, hunt, company and so on; from then and there on, the peculiar relationship between these three species began to evolve.
Of course, there are other sorts of pets, like birds, horses and even spiders, snakes and some stranger animals; however, these are generally more cumbersome to have at home and many species have been declared endangered and thus are hard to come by at pet shops. But this particular relationship between humans, cats and dogs has not always been good, neither these animals - including ourselves - and their relatives have been peaceful and cute: 'Smilodon populator,' a.k.a. 'Sabre tooth' was not a particularly well-mannered hunter, and it could take it even against much larger animals than they were.
But the curios thing about sabre teeth is that in fact, they vanished and reappeared thorough history as unrelated species; there was even a marsupial sabre tooth called 'Thylacosmilus' which was, of course, totally unrelated to felines, since the division between placental mammals and marsupials took place around the time of the extinction of dinosaurs.
Anyway, neither the last word nor the truth has already been said regarding natural evolution, and pet lover may start speculating about what the distant future may bring. Who knows? Maybe one day our pets will become so intelligent that they will, in turn, find pets of their own.
