If you ask many car owners, they will tell you that they bought their veicles because they needed them to go to work, or because cars are an indispensable part of modern life, and in a few cases, because owning and driving a car makes them feel independent and free.
Unfortunately, the massive proliferation of cars and four-wheel vehicles in urban areas is turning this freedom thing into an utopy: instead of being a necessity, cars are becoming a problem because of lack of parking lots and spaces, and if freedom is the issue, being trapped in the traffic for hours looks more like slavery than anything else.
Motorbikes on the other hand, are more flexible, they can let you pass thorough traffic jams and do some areobatics in the road; they are cheap to use and easy to find.
And let's not forget that for the same 23.000 euros that you pay today for your car you could also purchase a two-seat small aeroplane (not joking). There is no way to justify paying that amount for a car that you will throw away in five years at most, when your little aircraft will fly for decades.
Or perhaps there is a way... People accept the reality with which they are presented, and they do not know that they are paying way, way too much to get in just two wheels more than in a bike.
Motorbikes however, are dangerous in the city: don't forget that it is your body as a bike driver that abosrbs the energy of impacts much like a car would do otherwise; weather conditions may not be friendly for bike owners during part of the year, and one short visit to a hospital's emergency ward would reveal why you have to use a helmet all the time.
But away from cities the story is completely different: bikes and ATVs are superb tools for a wide variety of jobs in rural areas, and they let themselves drive easily on almost any adventure over forgotten or far away dirt roads.
Thin about it: if our current pace of ill progress as a civilisation continues unabated, you will have to get yourself a bike, because in cities, there is little space left for parking, not to say dreaming.
