Over time we humans have become more dependent on others; now we are becoming addict to consuming and the consumer society. We run to buy the next-generation mobile phone that comes with a digital camera, even if we have no clue about photography; we spend our money just because it has a gadget that we did not see before, no matter what we do with it; it is essential because it is different.

If one day someone would come up with a mobile phone incorporating a hair dryer and a shaving machine, it will be indeed successful. But there is nothing bad with phones themselves; the problem is that the notion of what we use a phone for has been twisted and while new uses may be good, the fact is not that the thing is gone awry because of what new use they have, but for the fact that people are lured into believing anything, as long as it is new and comes with a gadget they have not seen before.

Of course, everyone is free to do as desired but, are we really free being consumers? We shout, scream and rage about our rights, freedom and liberty, but at the same time put in our pockets these phones, which enable others to spy on us anytime. That is true, a fact that - it seems - most people prefer to ignore, but the situation is like if the KGB had put a bug on everyone.

Mobile phones, even when they are off - or we think they are - send pulsating signals in order to establish their location in the middle of the cell network. Something that may be argued technically, but the question is why would a telephone turned off have to send messages to a network? This seems more line the TV sets of North Korea or Orwell's 1984, because those cannot be turned off either.

Even if no one is listening to your conversations on these phone - a dubious perception on these days - certainly, someone can see where you are, with the aid of all these antennas and GPS systems; that could tell someone where you buy and where you go. The dream of any SS Führer, isn't it?

A police state is evolving in front of our own eyes while we stupidly continue with our lives at the same time...

This is not freedom, and aside from these invasive technologies, we are losing the ability to do anything for ourselves; our grandmas made cakes for which we have no more technology to produce. If we don't find the product already made or prefabricated in the supermarket, we will not be able to make that cake.

People now cannot repair anything, cannot build anything, and we are letting ourselves to be controlled and spied upon in the name of security, the fight against terrorism and so on.So, it is good to see sites and people who alt least keep their abilities to do things.

It is necessary to cultivate our sense of self-sufficiency or we will become idiots like cattle going to the slaughterhouse, and we will deserve it.
