At the time when the pyramids were being built in Egypt, there were very important changes going on among the primitive, stone-age humans living in Europe. At that time, according to evidence, there were no traces of highly evolved societies and people were having a lot of trouble in order to survive.

The last glacial period came to an end a few thousand years before, and the hunters and gatherers of Europe were having immense problem adjusting: there were no more big animals to hunt, and survival dictated that they should turn to agriculture. Yet, they had memories and histories of past generations who hunted and whenever they needed something else, just moved on.

Now, they had to settle, for agriculture requires constant care of the land; you cannot roam the landscape if you depend on agriculture. These old Europeans held the moon as a deity, and they had a cult built around it: the moon has its cycles, and hunting usually took place at night, when the moonlight was better.

Then, the moon has a cycle of 28 days, a span exactly equal to that of the menstrual period of women; indeed, it seemed that the moon had something to do with fertility and abundance of food. But also, any keen observer - like a hunter - would notice other changes that can be easily associated with moon cycles: sea tides, the growth of plants, and the behaviour of animals, all of which changes to a certain extent, according to the cyclic movement of the moon above the ski.

But those humans may have found themselves abandoned by the moon; there was no more abundance and they had to provide for themselves in a different way. So they began working the land and raising domestic animals for the first time in Europe, but this change, - according to the evidence that we know about - was very difficult and harsh; and as they felt abandoned by the moon, who could not provide them anymore with big animals to feed them, they began adoring the sun, because it soon became apparent that there was a connection between seasons, crops and the sun.

In the northern regions of Europe, seasonal differences are quite noticeable; the duration of daylight as well as temperatures varies significantly due to latitude; so they saw that the sun provided, but it was uncertain. The sun ran away, and things got bad regularly. Clearly, according to these people's minds, they had to make offerings to the sun to keep it happy and make it return all the time.

With the conformation of these first settlements, it was inevitable that some sort of leadership evolved, so chieftains, priests and kings appeared on the face of the region. It is known that these politicians of old time, ancestors of the European Union keep contact between them and their budding clans; proof of that is the style of pottery found all across Europe, which is in some cases, identical.

The construction of megalithic monuments such as in Carnac and Stonehenge took place within such a context, when societies were beginning to evolve and people were desperate for answers. It seems that at some point, one of those leaders had the idea to produce something that would impress and keep his subjects under control, and at the same time, achieve something related to astral observations; these monuments are to a great extent, observatories and calendars, so people would indeed have been impressed by them and obviously, they worked, according to the mindset of those Europeans, because the sun and the moon, kept coming back.

So the idea may have passed from one clan to the next across Europe, and the construction of the monuments continued; it is not well know how they actually made the monuments, but certainly, that required a great effort and a lot of devotion.
