Many of those interested in the occult, as well as scientist dedicated to archaeology have asked themselves at least once something about the monument found at Stonehenge, in the united Kingdom. New archaeological and historical theories suggest that indeed, this monument was a calculator and calendar for lunar and solar solstices, lunastices and cycles. This interpretation comes from the disposition of each component within the monument and the positions that the sun and the moon take thorough their movement on the sky, and since both, at very specific times, take very precise positions within the monument itself. It seems that Stonehenge was built over a long period of time, following social unrest cause by the change from a nomadic, hunting society to agricultural settlements. The last glacial period had ended, and with the ice vanished all the big creatures that were vital for hunting and the survival of the nomadic groups of humans. Smaller animals were as hard to catch, and yielded much less food, so in order to survive, people had to become sedentary and try their luck with plants. But indeed, agriculture is a major effort, a very difficult and time-consuming task if it is performed without automation; so these individuals, accustomed to the freedom that hunting allowed them now were stuck in places they did not necessarily like, and doing something that they never did before. Skeletons from that time which have been found suggest that life expectancy reached a low point during that age, and quarrels, and then wars began because of a simple fact: with sedentary work surged the need for caring for each one's land, and that slowly evolved into the concept of property. However, these men and women were culturally accustomed to roam at will, taking and gathering whatever they needed; before these settlements, there was only a common ground, a big open space. Then, humans had a very hard time adjusting. The nomads in the Kalahari are still hunters, and they depend on and thus adore the moon as a deity. Hunters in the late European Neolithic faced a very difficult religious choice: they could not depend on the moon anymore, and had to begin adoring the sun instead. It is an established fact that by that time, a cast of wizard - kings appeared among these tribes. These individuals would have the power to motivate and unite the settlers, as well as the knowledge acquired over generations dedicated to astronomical observation, required to actually start any big project such as the construction of Stonehenge. Thus, it seems that these high priests and leaders saw convenient to begin building it as a way to unite the people living in the area in a common project, make a demonstration about the sun and the moon in the sense that they were somewhat connected with each other, and show their power by predicting when and where they would appear within the structure of Stonehenge. |
