When choosing a martial art to become your activity for the next few years, you should not only consider the wisdom and technique of a master or sensei. It is important to watch a demonstration and a few lessons of each martial art before deciding that such or such is the one that we want to get involved with; this involves technique as well as the philosophical aspects of each one of the many martial arts.
Another important aspect to consider is the human group, the club or place where you want to become a martial artist. Indeed, a good master may not have the best students, he may be good but cannot pay attention for his students, he may be the best, but cannot decide for each person or make efforts for everyone else.
Then, you have sometimes kids (not necessarily speaking of age) that go to a martial arts lesson forced by their parents or just to make socials; so, the whole class losses its goals despite what the master, professor or instructor may want or know or to do. In other occasions, the person in charge of a group of students has constructed his livelihood around that and cannot simply eliminate students just because they are bad, for fear of losing income, despite the fact that those students may well be disastrous or completely counterproductive for the whole group or team.
In any case, the effect ends being similar: the whole learning process suffers because the members of each class are of a lower standard. You have to run away from such places because you will waste money and learn very little, and even if you think that it may be fun to be there, consider that you can have fun while doing things well and - above all - your goal is to learn a martial art, and not just pretend to do so.
