 | CV / Resume submit to over 1000 offshore oil companies in USA and Canada or UK and Worldwide. Information for all kinds of workers, such as helicopter pilots, sailors, drillers and technicians. Employer advertising.
Working in an oil rig dedicated to crude prospecting or extraction is a very web paid job but hazardous indeed; first of all it demands long periods of time away from home, and then, accidents happen. Taking one example from the Magellan Strait, where oil companies from Argentina and Chile operate, helicopter crews dedicated to transporting personnel and equipment to and from oil rigs in the area usually work on 21/21 shifts, meaning that they are on duty three weeks at a time, and receive three weeks free for every cycle of one month and a half; while this may sound good, these crews are regulated in their performance and safety by aeronautical authorities which are independent from oil companies, so they get a pretty good deal.
Such crews in other cases operate on a 4/3 basis, and receive pretty good compensation packages, but that is because they are helicopter pilots and airmen. Lesser workers go to rigs for periods much longer, and in not so good conditions: six months at a time may be the case, for some; and then, an oil rig is a dangerous environment.
Anyway, all these positions are very well paid and that may be their main attractive power, along with the fact that getting such a job appeals to one's adventurous spirit. But don't delude yourself: the work is hard and dangerous; in the case of helicopter pilots, it means flying in marginal meteorological conditions with little room for error; for those remaining in the rigs, they sleep, eat and work in a highly flammable environment where survival odds are nominal, like the fire on 'Piper Alpha,' in the North Sea, proved.
But despite the dangers, and taking pay checks into account, many would not resist the adventure that such positions entail; only those who have families and find hard to get separated for extended periods may have more trouble deciding.
