Artist promotion is something that each artist himself - or herself - must start doing right from the beginning of the artistic career because in our world, within the context of any creative activity such as in the arts, in engineering and so on, in which there is money or fame to gain, creators must cater and care for their own interests too, or risk losing everything while seeing how others take the glory away in their pockets. Such a thing happened as the telegraph was being invented and developed: Morse was indeed the inventor of the concept and the constructor of the first telegraph prototype. However, his concoction was very crude and unreliable, and almost all the work conductive to its practical use wasn't his, but the achievement of Alexander Vail, the son of a millionaire who was his assistant.

Being in a rather affluent position, Mr. Vail secured the use of laboratories, machinery, tools and money for the development of the telegraph. Moreover: he perfected the machine and even invented what we know today as the Morse Code. Indeed: Mr. Morse had invented a code that consisted in assigning a serial number to each possible word that could be transmitted using the telegraph. He didn't use the dashes and dots that are iconic to the telegraph. That was Vail's invention and of course, proved much more practical and efficient that perusing thorough immense dictionaries trying to associate each word to each number.

When the telegraph was patented, it included both codes, and this can be seen just by reading the patent documents, so it is a fact that Vail actually did the majority of the work, but Morse, being an older and more established person got all the credit and the money for the invent. Almost nobody knows that a man called Alexander Vail existed, and this is a fat that any creative mind should avoid.
