Pro Sports Memorabilia

Collectibles and sports memorabilia from major events and teams; all kinds of stuff and souvenirs for sports fans.

It is incredible how any sport item, even the most petty ones, could become an authentic 'fetish', just because it was used by some sports celebrity, or found its way by chance into an important event.

And these days, this odd behaviour does not extend only to traditional sports, a realm in which we have already seen Maradona's shirts and Pele's socks auctioned for huge sums, but it is beginning to show among extreme sports fans too.

Now, yellow shirts from the 'Tour de France' are beginning to command similar values, as well as skiing boards, climbing gear and such stuff, provided that they were blessed and sanctified by the touch of someone famous.

The interesting side of this story is that these souvenirs tend to be sold after a few years at values that are completely out of proportion to their original cost, reminding us about mass-hysteria events such as the Tulip Fever of a couple of centuries ago: just think about that baseball used in the World Series that got auctioned at nearly three million US dollars.

The reason for this belongs probably to the realm of psychologists and sociologists, but it is real; it is a kind of lottery, a highly speculative thing that can actually turn a collector into an instant millionaire.

Around this fact, a true urban myth has grown and more hobbists and collectors that we believe actually keep secret drams of becoming the next winner, so there is a huge market for sports memorabilia.

We don't see a rationale behind this other than collectors' hysteria combined with market forces; anyway, savvy investors will certainly know what to do.
