| Sportswear and equipment for a huge variety of different sports and activities, from aerobics to weightlifting. In recent times, sports and athletic practices and exercising at primary and high schools has been changing a little and we see now more variety in terms of the different sports and activities available. There are even more parents willing to authorise and even oblige their children to take part in activities such as outdoor sports, martial arts and fencing. We could recently see such a case: a financial analyst living in London that proudly told us that both is children - two boys of less than ten years old - had their daily schedule filled to the brim with school and then extra-curricular activities, especially fencing, which he considered as indispensable for a kid's education. The good man also has his day full: naturally, the financial sector demands a lot of attention, but since he is spending more than half of his income paying the rent of the rather small apartment in which he and his family lives, and then - lovingly indeed - has to pay for the boarding school of his two children and all the related activities, he has to do a lot of work. Indeed, it is not our mission in life to get into the privacy of families, but we find it hard to believe that these two children would prefer to be on the march the whole day instead of just playing. They are doing what they are told to do and unfortunately, some day they will react by abandoning all kinds of activities imposed by their parents, including sports and of course, fencing. The saddest part of it is that athletics and sports are healthy things to do, but the motivation to participate in such activities must come from the inside, and not from allegedly educational impositions. |
