All survivalists know something about camping, but the opposite is not necessarily true; you may be a camper and just that, and you may be thinking that survival techinques are not for you.

Maybe they appear too harsh, or perhaps you are simply not interested in trying to improvise everything you use, and just enjoy a couple of days out with your RV.

But the truth is that aside from purists, all kinds of people involved either with outdoor activities or jobs that will take them away from civilisation need to know at least the fundamentals of survival techniques as an insurance policy.

Those who practice survival as a discipline per se may do that in purpose in order to rehearse their skills, but getting into an emergency is something that could potentially happen even to those least interested in outdoor or extreme sports.

If you travel in a small aircraft and have to make an emergency landing, or your car breaks down in the middle of the desert, then you will be in a survival situation in just a couple of seconds.

Lancaster, the famous pilot that disappeared while trying to break the speed record flying from London to Cape Town in South Africa, vanished in the middle of the Sahara desert.

Now we know - because his aircraft, remains and pilot's logbook were found - that he had to perform a crahs landing during the night due to an engine failure. He survived for about ten days with no water, almost no food and no way to get out.

Perhaps, if he had some knowledge about survival he would have made it, but he was about 80 nautical miles from the nearest military outpost that might have helped him.

In fact, he was searched for but not found for about thrity years because he had strayed way off course; if he have had any land navigation skills, he would have probably made it out from there, but he had no idea...

So, his life was doomed in just a few seconds. Once he landed he aircraft, he was already dead.

This is why even campers should learn ahbout survival.
