We, the people of Andinia, like to make analogies in order to explain our points of view. In this case, and regarding outdoor equipment, the concept that we want to put forward for you to think about, is the avoidance of excess and the quest for maximum efficiency from your gear.

This means purchasing only what is indispensable and can be used in the highest number of different ways; it is a common mistake to purchase all sorts of things that later prove to be more of a hassle than anything else. And as an analogy to this idea, we want to comment on the Inuit people that live in northern regions of America, Europe and Asia.

This ethnical group to which Eskimos belong is essentially nomadic and lives from hunting and fishing. Doubtless, a number of them have already become sedentary but what counts for our analogy is the number of people that are still nomadic among the Inuit.

The first thing that we observe is that they have to carry some sort of warm clothes with them; living under aurora borealis is no simple thing, and it may be dangerous if you are not adequately prepared. We also see that they have sleds and canoes of different kinds; they also have some guns, harpoons and fishing gear of a traditional sort.

But what we will never see among these nomads is them carrying too much weight; they never carry weight that will impede their movements, even considering that what they need for survival in the arctic are quite bulky things, and that they move all the time, so they cannot leave their properties behind. And this is so because after generations they learned that they can only and should only take what they need, and not anything just because they may like those things, consuming energy and making useless efforts.

Inuits are hunters and fishers, but they also know that they shall not deplete the species that feed them; they hunt the same kind of whales that western whalers decimated during the nineteenth century. But they have been doing that for centuries, and never brought any species to extinction.

Somehow, they always found a balance between their needs and what the land could provide. This people are accustomed to live outdoors, to walk and trek and navigate; and they carry in their self the need to get the most with the least, instead of dedicating themselves to excess because of ignorance.
