To mention Beechcraft is like talking about general aviation itself, for it is ingrained in the minds of every aviation enthusiast; every single model made by this manufacturer has been appreciated for its technical aspects, its looks, and good performance. Some if Beechcraft's designs have become proverbial classics, and the most important models offered have been in production for decades but never cease to be appealing; few individuals would say realise that Bonanzas are being sold since 1947, and King Airs, since about 1968.

Some of these aircraft are actually older than the pilots who fly them, and they look like if they had been designed this year. But all this comes at a price: Beechcrafts are expensive, to put it mildly.

Generally speaking, you will need twice as much money to keep one of these than anything comparable in size and performance. But almost without exception, owners and pilots of these planes say that they are worth the price, and see these machines as the best that there is in general and light commercial aviation.

The company always targeted the high-end of the general aviation market; this policy seems to have been ingrained since it was created, and seems to be very successful at that. It is rather hard to find a Beechcraft doing any sort of menial or prosaic fly job.

But of course, nothing is perfect; what surprises us most about some of their models is their unconventional cockpit layout: every different version of the Bonanza seems to have things moved away, some of them oddly, and the Twin Bonanza carried three seats in the front row instead of two. Nevertheless, conventional or not, we would not complain if someone just gave us one of those as a gift!
