Vultures Route - Geopark Naturtejo

Here we see photos taken during the Vultures Route (Rota dos Abutres) located in the International Tagus Natural Park, which is in turn integrated into Naturtejo Geopark, Portugal.

Vultures Road covers an area of about 15 km with a slight slope (about 300 meters up and down) is a circular route that starts and ends at the main church of the town of Salvaterra do Extremo (former Salvaterra da Beira) in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, and that always follows a path clearly marked as PR1. At the beginning of the route is accessible to a bird observatory, from which is Peñafiel Castle, which is now a nesting place of vultures, hence its name.

The route runs through the valley which shaped the river Erges, which is in this place a natural border between Portugal and Spain.
