This is how a 1967, C-182 panel looks like; it is indeed very different from what you will find on a more recent model, no matter whether it is offered with traditional analog instruments or the newer, integrated digital flat panels.

despite its appearance, this is not a disco-era home sound system, and it does its job of letting you fly the aircraft remarkably well.

Aeroplanes do not get 'old' in the same sense as cars or home appliances; if well maintained, any aircraft can remain extremely safe even for decades, and certainly will be in flying condition much longer than the whole life span of automobiles or almost any consumer market items.
