This is not a winter scene: the picture was taken in late January, which is summer in the southern hemisphere.
Summer snow storms have always been common in Patagonia; however, in recent years and possibly due to climate change in the world, these have become more common.
This picture was taken a few days after we got out of those mountains, where we enjoyed subzero temperatures, wind and snow for a couple of weeks.
We were trapped, and decided to make a run for our lives in the middle of a relentless storm; then we climbed in an aircraft and flew around to see the results.
