Aconcagua - Name given to the highest mountain in the Cordillera de los Andes, Argentina, America, Southern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere (6962 m). The highest mountain in the world not belonging to the Himalayas. It is believed that the origin of the name can be mapundugum, quechua or aymara languages, but has not yet been determined with certainty. His first recorded ascent was the 14 January 1897 by Swiss Matthias Zurbriggen as a member of an expedition led by englishman Briton Edward Fitzgerald. Coordinates: 32° 39'20"S 70° 00'57"W.
