Membrane - In the context of outdoor activities, winter sports and any other sport practiced in the outside, it refers to what we call a semipermeable and breathable membrane. Water-resistant and breathable membranes are parts of clothes, footwear or other materials and equipments which are assumed to avoid water and/or wind to get in from the outside and, at the same time, to allow water (perspiration) to get from the inside to the outside. While the best known and most famous brand to avoid the passage of water is Gore-tex, to avoid the passage of wind it is Windstopper.
