Camara, Malamine - Malamine Camara (? - 1886) was born in Senegal and joined the French Armed forces as a colonial solider or 'laptot.' He became soon know for his performance as an explorer and became almost indispensable for European visitors such as the Italo-French Savorgnan de Brazza. He also struggled against the Belgian interests in Congo and gained the goodwill of natives and colonial residents alike.
