Inverse Mercator - This variant of the original equatorial Mercator was created to correct representation problems and show areas not covered buy the original design. Its aspect is markedly different but shows at the correct scale the central meridian that forms the tangential great circle of the projection. In the inverse Mercator, the original reticule or graticule of meridians and parallels appears distorted, and a new set of virtual lines is used in place. These look like straight, crossing lines, quite similarly to the how the true meridians and parallels look like in a traditional or equatorial Mercator chart.
