The First Amateur-Built CH-750 Flies
The Zenith Aircraft Company reports that the first privately-built plane from its new CH-750 series has flown; this plane, sold as a kit or as a turnkey product is meant to continue the success of the popular CH-701 and CH-801 series.

With the new CH-750 Zenith Aircraft seems poised to attain dominance in the light STOL and bush plane markets. These planes easily compete with established and almost folkloric names like the Piper Super Cub and for some good reasons: The Zeniths are very reasonably priced and their performance operating in short fields surpass the numbers offered by their competitors. One additional reason is that the CH-750 has been designed to satisfy the needs of those that found the 701 a little too small and the 801 a little too big, a fact that could mean even more customers choosing the Zenith Air products.
These planes are not aesthetically appealing, that's for sure: the 701, 750 and 801 look like boxcars with wings, but planes are designed not to be specifically nice. Their beauty lies in how well they perform according to the intention of the designers and the will of their owners, and considering that a CH-701 can take off in less than fifteen metres in some cases, there is little that could be said against them. Moreover: Other STOL aircraft such as the Fieseler Storch and the Pilatus Turbo Porter have been designed following a similar format, meaning only that highly optimised planes for short-strip operations are unavoidably associated with such "ugly shapes" for aerodynamic reasons.
It is still to be seen how well will the CH750 fare in terms of sales, taking into account the global recession that affects us now, but setting mid-term economics and aesthetics aside, bush flyers thinking about new planes should seriously consider one of these.
