In this brief article we will describe how to carve a spoon out of wood during a wilderness emergency or survival situation.  Start by cleaning the wooden stick that you will use to carve. Making a spoon out of wood is not really difficult; the need to do this could be faced by any sort of camper, hiker or adventurer, and developing the skills required to manufacture one's own equipment and gear could really make a difference, so you will lose nothing if you try to make a spoon for yourself right now even if you are online and sitting comfortably at home.  Then begin the hollowing process using hot embers. Who knows? You may even discover a new hobby as a wood artist. The simplest of all techniques used to carve spoons out of wood is know as fire carving; you should read about it and practice a little bit, but once you get the idea, making spoons, mugs and almost any kind of vessel will become very easy indeed. To start with you will need to find an adequate prism or chunk of wood; that is, a piece of a certain length, width and depth, because you will have to carve on 3D. The best size for a wooden spoon is around 25 x 4 x 2 cm. The it is only a matter of half and hour and a little work using the fire carving technique, and you will get your spoon.  Scratch the burnt material and clean the stick again. Finding adequate wood for such a project is easier than you think: Only in dry or arid regions you may face some difficulties finding adequate resources but even under such circumstances you can improvise. For example, if you are travelling around in an all-terrain vehicle that is for real, you will likely find wood planks, boxes and so on somewhere inside the truck. Then, a little cannibalisation will suffice to transform a piece of those planks into your spoon.
