The Andean District is that important fraction of Patagonia that is covered by the southernmost part of the Andes Range, both in Argentina and Chile.
The name actually originated in the region that surrounds the 42th Southern Parallel. The people of that area began to call collectively the towns and valleys as such, but the name extends very well to the whole range, covered by the dense Valdivian forests, and fertile valleys on lower altitudes that enjoy a climate similar to that of central and northern Europe, and the extensive glaciers and peaks of the highlands, which have a sub polar, deep-freeze climate.
